Your Personal Guide To The Boston Harbor Islands

Islands

These islands are recommended for your own personal adventure. You can customize your experience to match what we like to call your "AQ" or Adventure Quotient. The higher the AQ the more challenging.

Great Brewster (AQ 6) at 23 acres is the largest of the outer harbor islands and the tallest with commanding views from Cape Anne to Hull, including Boston Light. The tide pools in the intertidal zone, or area between high and low tide abound with marine life including: crabs, snails, starfish, and all kinds of marine algae. We will provide water proof identification charts. There is a solar powered restroom facility. Picnic tables and benches are scattered around the island.

Calf Island (AQ 8) is just north of Great Brewster and has great deserted sandy beaches and tide pools. The remains of a mansion and a breath taking terrace which is 50 feet directly above the shore is a
fabulous place for lunch or dinner. **We can cater a lobster meal, freshly caught by Captain John, with potato salad, cole slaw, watermelon, and soft drinks for a dining experience you will never forget.

Little Brewster (AQ 5) pictured above, is the home of the oldest (1716) continually operated light house in North America, the famous Boston Light, and a small visitor center. Climb the stairs of the lighthouse for magnificent views. A great place for lunch **(see catered lobster meal above) with a must climb tour of the light house.

Outer Brewster (AQ 10) is a solid bedrock island of World War II fame. Abandoned army installations dot the landscape. There are several acres of grassy areas as well as a small beach for landing and picnicking.

Rainsford (AQ 7) is a popular island for marine birding with two fine sandy beaches. It is a great place to read and relax on the steep rocky shores.

Boston Islands Charters can also take your group on your own schedule to the 8 islands that are serviced by public ferries and you can visit more than one on your trip. These include Bumpkin, Thompson, Georges, Spectacle, Lovells, Little Brewster, Peddocks and Grape Island.
